Jamestown Road
2020-2024

Drawing inspiration from found family photographs dating back to the 1950’s, the Jamestown Road series pays homage to Erin Breau-Barkley’s grandmother and the house she built in the suburbs of Detroit as assurance and protection against the insecurity of early widowhood.

In creating the Jamestown Road series, Erin confronts competing narratives surrounding home ownership. Capitalism’s promotion of security and pride in private ownership stand in stark contrast to the artist’s own values and the widening gap created by the affordable housing crisis.
